Kira Privacy Policy

Kira is designed as a local-first expense tracker. Your core expense data stays on your device. Some optional AI features may send limited information to process a specific request — never more than is needed.

Kira is designed as a local-first expense tracker. Core expense data is stored on your device. Some optional AI features may send limited information to process a specific request — they do not store your data permanently and are always optional.
2. Data stored on your device
Kira is designed as a privacy-focused expense tracker. Your expense records are stored locally on your device unless a feature explicitly requires external processing, such as optional AI features.
The following data is stored locally on your device and does not leave your device as part of normal operation:
- Expenses (amount, merchant, category, date, tags, notes)
- Categories and custom tags
- Settings and preferences
- Onboarding selections
- Usage counters (free plan limits)
3. AI features and third-party processing
Kira includes optional AI-powered features, such as expense categorization, receipt analysis, and spending insights through chat.
When you choose to use these AI features, Kira may send the information required to process your request to our secure backend service and to a third-party AI provider. This may include:
- Expense amounts
- Merchant or store names
- Expense categories and tags
- Receipt images or extracted receipt text
- Chat messages sent to Kira
- Limited recent spending context needed to answer your request
Kira uses Cloudflare Workers as a secure backend and proxy service to protect API keys and route AI requests. AI requests may then be processed by Google Gemini. This data is used solely to provide the requested AI result, such as categorizing an expense, reading a receipt, or generating a spending insight.
AI features are optional. You can use Kira without enabling AI features. You can disable AI features at any time in the app settings.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your expense data for advertising. We do not intentionally send unnecessary personal information to the AI provider.
4. Third-party service providers
Kira may use the following service providers:
- Cloudflare: used to securely route AI requests and protect API keys. Cloudflare processes personal data as a processor on behalf of Kira.
- Google Gemini: used to process optional AI requests, such as categorization, receipt reading, and chat responses.
- RevenueCat: used to manage subscriptions and purchases.
- Apple: used for App Store purchases and subscription management.
Each provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle data on their infrastructure.
5. No bank connection
Kira does not require your bank login and does not connect directly to your bank account. No financial credentials are requested or stored by Kira.
6. Apple Pay Shortcut
If you use the Apple Pay Shortcut integration, payment details are sent to Kira only through the shortcut action you configure in iOS. Kira does not access Apple Wallet directly — this is an Apple restriction that applies to all third-party apps. The shortcut triggers a review flow in Kira, where you confirm before saving.
7. Subscriptions
Kira uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status and purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymized identifier to verify your subscription. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Kira does not store your payment information.

8. Data export and deletion
You are in control of your data:
- Export: Open Kira → Settings → Data & Privacy → Export data (Premium feature).
- Delete expenses: Open Kira → Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete all expenses.
- Delete the app: Deleting the app from your device will remove locally stored data if it is not backed up to iCloud. Review your iCloud backup settings to manage this.

10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Kira after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
